The Forsaken is very well written. It's one of those books that really help you feel the emotions of the characters. I instantly felt a strong connection with the main character. I was able to relate to her thought process and found myself at times concerned almost speaking out loud "no, don't do that, Gwen!".

Although at times it moved a bit slow, I appreciated the attention to detail. The book's opening story with Gwen and the fire, her cross over into the human world.. It's really just grabs at you! The story as a whole is very creative and imaginative and I think you will enjoy it very much.

The Forsaken The Thirteen Tribes of Cain Book 1 eBook RJ Craddock Reviews

This brilliant book weaves a brilliant tape and grips the reader from page one.
The story follows Gwen a magical orphan stranded In a world that fears and shuns those who are different.
She befriends another loner Raven and the pair become inseparable but together can they survive the brutal reality of earth with little to no help from adults and many who wish them harm?
Can little Gwen control her powers, remember her past and blend in with humans before it's too late
This gripping read will have you turning the page constantly well into the late hours to find out what happens next.
The book takes you on a real rollercoaster of emotions and I got angry laughed and cried with poor little Gwen, she is such a relatable likeable character despite the fact that she is not human and only a child. I loved that she was flawed and things went wrong, it made it better when things went right.
The book is written in 3rd person present which was unique but really odd to read and I think it would have Made a great book even better if written in 3rd person past.
Also the prologue although fantastic on its own merit didn't really help or contribute towards the story and I would recommend this be removed as I spent most of the story trying to figure out how this was related.
The author is a clearly gifted writer and this book is the proof in the pudding so to speak an amazing start to the series and I can't wait to devour book 2
I highly recommend 'The Forsaken.' It is an excellent story, and story trumps everything else.

I have a very hard time reading any book written in the 'immediate' style; most of the time I just toss them aside after a few pages. I have extreme difficulty with 'she went left, she goes right, she thinks, she says,' all that kind of thing. I mention this because I have such an intense dislike for the style that it keeps me from giving the book five stars. Prejudice, I know. I won't be paying much mind to that trend at all, unless...it's a really good story. The first time I read a book in the 'immediate' style all the way through without forcing myself was with 'The Hunger Games' and its sequels. The stories captured me despite my dislike for the style.

And now it's happened again! 'The Forsaken' is a good read, it's interesting, engaging and unusual. It has some very inventive creations in it, and odd ways of using magic and mystery that made it feel new, almost real. Ms. Craddock has a great skill in storytelling that could only be enhanced by returning to a more traditional style (sorry, reflexive knee jerk reaction) but like Ms. Collins, somehow takes that awkward immediate style and still makes the story shine through.

The editing could use a little more polish in 'The Forsaken;' there are a few words that are misused several times, and a few misspellings made it through, but these technical issues are few and far between, and not enough to often break the reading reverie.

'The Forsaken' transcends the style and any technical caveats; I fell right into it, and I recommend it to anyone. I have the paperback, but it's only $3 for the version and it's worth the price either way.

If you want to see what sort of books I like for comparison, check out my Shelfari page [...] It's not up-to-date this year, but there are enough books listed judge whether my opinion should mean anything to you.

Get 'The Forsaken' and enjoy the ride. I eagerly await the sequel.
A great start to a great series, I look forward to reading more! I felt drawn to Gwen as soon as she appeared in the story. I can't wait to find out her true background. Love it!
Interesting reading.
I enjoyed reading this book and found that the author had a refreshing and unique style of writing. The descriptions of characters and interactions were comfortable to read and flowed well. There are some adult themes and situations that are touched upon in the story but this seems to help us understand why the protagonist develops as she does.
Very intriguing and immersive. Sadness with a hint of hope dominates the mood of the narrative. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
This book was not really my genre, But I gave it a go and I am so glad I did. The book is imaginative and well thought out. It is a little slow to progress because the writer has a great knack for detail. The story starts out with a fire and a girl running. She is in the hospital and has no concept of language and can't speak to anyone in English. She is taken to an orphange where she grows and learns, making a friend and learning new things of her special powers.Follow the path with Gwen of findering her way in life. There are many peeks into what the story will eventually unfold (I am sure sicne there is said to be 6 books total).
