A Tale of Two Centuries Rachel Harris Books
A Tale of Two Centuries is even more adorable than the first book! This time, it's Cat's sixteenth century cousin, Alessandra, who goes on an epic journey through time. It's been two years since Cat returned home, so Less is now 16 and ripe for marriage. Unfortunately, the man she is in love with and assumes returns her affections, marries another woman. In the midst of her heartbreak, Reyna appears to whisk her away to modern day Hollywood. Less appears on Cat's doorstep and learns it's only been two months in Cat's time, so her journey is still fresh. Now, it's time for Less to enroll in high school, try out for a play, and fall in love with the insufferable surfer in her American Government class.I loved how different A Tale of Two Centuries felt from My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century. Alessandra has a very unique voice. She speaks extremely proper, so it felt like reading Historical Fiction, which I adored. But as time moves on, she adapts her language to fit into modern times. She goes from Miss Prim and Proper, who doesn't use contractions, show her elbows, or stand up for herself to Miss Independent! While the first book was more focused on a personal journey, this one is more about the romance. Less does do a lot of growing, but a lot of her time in the future revolves around her budding relationship with Austin. I liked them very much!
Just like the first book, A Tale of Two Centuries gets a bit cheesy at the end, but it's so cute! I loved watching Less change into the young woman she wished to be in her own time, but couldn't. I loved the romance, and how Austin is the one responsible for coaxing her out of her shell. And I adored Cat's background plot, which is another romance and her worrying about her mother's next scandal. Now, I must immediately move onto My Not So Super Sweet Life!

A Tale of Two Centuries Rachel Harris Books Reviews
This is the first book I have read by this author and I couldn't put it down.
Alessandra D'Angeli has been the good girl and followed the rules but when she learn the man she thought she was going to marry has chosen another. She makes a wish to the stars for adventure and excitement. The gypsy that allowed her cousin to time-travel appear and grants her wish sending her from sixteen century Italy to modern day L.A and her cousin Cat. On the first day of spring term Less meets the infuriating Austin Michael and is assigned a school assignment with him. Austin has gained a reputation for being a surfer who doesn't know a lot or care about school work. Less manages to get Austin to agree to work on the project in exchange for stepping outside her comfort zone. Despite the fact half the times she wants to strangle him - she feels drawn to him and the more she times they spend together the more she realises that he is putting up a facade for people. Will she be able to bring down his walls and what happens whens it time for her to go back to her own time
will be reading the other books in this series for sure
It was sweet and an endearing love story between Austin and Alessandra and although I liked the challenges she had, honestly, I was more interested in her talks with Cat. I'm still struggling with why Cat couldn't have her happy ending with Lorenzo like Less did with Austin! Yeah, sure Lucas is great and looks identical to Lorenzo but he isn't! I thought maybe Rachel would have a twist where he really was Lorenzo but from what I read he's just a descendant, that's all. I read all the reviews about the 3rd and final book but I have no desire to read it now. I should but I just had my heart set on Lorenzo. Who knows...Maybe later down the road I might but it won't be soon.
I realize that I'm swimming against the tide with this review, but I didn't find a lot to love with this book.
I never read the first book, about the cousin, Cat. My advice? Don't read this one if you haven't read My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century first. Two Centuries is NOT a standalone book, and you won't understand the storyline. The author should make this clear. The first quarter of Two Centuries is spent trying to explain the background of Sixteenth Century. If it were done well, it would be forgivable, but it isn't; you STILL won't really understand what happened to Cat. Besides, too much time is spent trying to knit the two stories together. The last time I checked my Fire, it was at the 30% mark and the author was still throwing in random details from Sixteenth Century. I never did have a clear understanding of Cat and Lorenzo's story.
My second objection is that there was very little conflict in this story. A great story thrives on conflict, right? And this story had so much potential! She gets sent hundreds of years into the future, to Hollywood, no less - the possibilities! And the best the author could come up with is a mean girl audition scenario? Possibly getting back too soon? I could visualize so many great possibilities... a second love interest with the Romeo so she has to choose, Cat and her parents not being home so she has nowhere to go when she arrives or at least her parents not believing Cat told them and they "just forgot." Maybe being passed over initially for the Shakespeare audition. Or being unable to speak English and being put in an ESL class - that could have been interesting. What fun is it to read a story where (practically) nothing bad happens to challenge the main character?
It's not that this was bad. It just could have been a whole lot better.
