This is the 3rd installment to Shannon McKenna's The McCloud Brothers series. I've read the first two books of the series (Behind Closed Doors & Standing in the Shadows) a while back & decided to continue on with the series. My favorite so far is Standing in the Shadows with Connor & Erin.

This story is about the oldest McCloud brother Davy and Margot Vetter & their quest to find out why Margot was framed for murder she didn't commit while protecting her & keeping her alive from a crazed stalker. This plot sounds very intriguing, hence I decided to continue the series. The beginning of the book was interesting and got me hooked. However, as I got into 1/2 of the book, the hero & heroine's constant bickering, which was mostly how they communicated throughout the story, just got irritating. Therefore, I was reluctant to finish the book, but having paid for it, I decided to push myself to see how it ends. The story moved at a good pace, but I felt there was not much character development and relationship between the H/H. The ending was still a happily ever after, but it was quite a disappointment as it felt rushed IMO. Overall, this was an ok read; not the greatest in the series so far. But, that's not to say I won't continue with the series. I won't let this book ruin it for the rest. Hopefully, the others will not be disappointing like this one.

The book was in good shape and reading about the McCloud boys is hot.
I was bored the first 150 pages, but the second half of the book was good. Can't wait to read book 4
P.I. Davy McCloud is about to meet a woman he can't trust-or live without..He is a man who lives by rules and on top of his list never be impulsive when it comes to women. when he meets Margot Vetter who teaches at the gym next door-he's done for. Margot who is broke and on the run was framed for a murder she didn't commit so all alone without the option of turning to her friends, Davy is the only one who can help her. Unfortunately her past catches up to her. Things are about to take a turn for the worst.
This novel is a crime story loaded with sexual content. The author seems to include all of her personal fantasies. Mixed in with that is a large amount of violence, including some kung fu, and some gruesome murders. At best it is an R rated novel.

Along the way there is a plot. Mag Callahan discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her, and was careless in covering his tracks, a bad mistake. Don't cheat on a hot tempered redhead. After trashing his belongings, she seeks him out, only to find him strung up like a side of beef. She is knocked out and wakes up naked in a motel. Then the flight begins.

She hides out under an assumed name in Seattle, and reluctantly accepts the help of Davy McCloud. She is being stalked by an unknown person she refers to as Snakeman. He is obsessed with her body, and has a tendency to kill anyone who he thinks may have offended her. Bodies are left strewn about the landscape (one stuffed into a freezer), sometimes just to cover his tracks. The stalker is a psycho serial killer, who sometimes kills just to satisfy an inner craving.

An evil group of people want something that they think Mag has, but she doesn't have a clue what it is. They think she was involved in stealing it. Events lead Mag and Davy back towards the scene of the crime, and a confrontation. As usual with this type novel, the cavalry arrive in the nick of time, and more bodies are left strewn about.

The novel is undoubtedly of more interest to women than men, as men will probably find it overly mushy, although men might like the kung fu and such (a little something for every reader). The novel is generally well written, but I found myself skimming in places to get past yet another panting sexual encounter. Mag and Davy seem to have a hard time keeping their pants on, even in the face of extreme danger.
Having read Seth and Connor's books I was prepared for Me Tarzan You Jane alpha behavior. I really like alphas so I could go for that. What I wasn't prepared for was the emotional train wreck Davey McCloud. I expected him to be intense and overbearing but I had no idea he'd be so callous and detached. I realize he had ALOT of baggage.His mother's death, his father's insanity, the responsibility of raising his brothers, the probable PTSD from Desert Storm, the failure to save his first wife( if you could call her that)from herself and his inability to be there when Kevin died. Not to spoil it but if you're like me and look at the upcoming books in the series you'll find that Kevin isn't dead but at this point we don't know that. Granted it was obvious Margot was his Achillies heel but he was so cruel at times. Margot quite frankly was a pain in the ass. Her cynacism and constant instigation of conflit was irritating to say the least. As bad as it sounds, I still enjoyed reading the book. I was intrigued by Faris and his demented obsession w/Margot. I enjoyed Sean as usual...except for his behavior at the end. Funny Margot mentally remarked how "like Davey" he was then. Glad to re-visit Raine and Seth and Connor and Erin. I rarely look at characters as TSTL... I think Cindy has made me a believer. Tam is an enigma and her book ought to be something else. Poor Miles...I hope he morphs into a lethal weapon down the road. I was thankful to get the HEA and that Davey finally confessed his love. I was happy for Margot because an HEA was all she ever really wanted. It was just painful to watch them get there. I have enjoyed McKenna's books and plan to continue reading the series.
I have to say that I measure every book I read by a Shannon McKenna yardstick. I don't really mean to..but it always happens. She is that good...and so are her books. There's usually a touch of the woo-woo (paranormal) but there are always smart smart women. And there is always a hot strong hero..always. Ms. McKenna does something else I love..she writes a standalone novel. Yes the storylines involve many of the same McCloud family..but she leaves it up to you to decide if you want to continue or not. She never holds you hostage to the storyline. Do I recommend her books? Good grief YES!!
