I came up with a WINNER for the book club I’m in. This is my first Nora Roberts book and let me just say…..I had no idea she wrote anything other than romance. I’m currently patting myself for picking such a great book.

I have to say it and will probably offend many Stephen King fans but I read Doctor Sleep before this one and I’ll have to admit, Blood Brothers had me sleeping with my iPhone light on ALL night. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed Doctor Sleep but it did not have the fear factor that I thought it would. I could be wrong but it’s all I have to go on for now. I loved the connection and loyalty between Cal, Fox and Gage. Plenty of action, friendship and drama all rolled up nicely in this book.

Kudos to Nora Roberts for telling such a great story. The only question I have is………….WTH is up with that ending? That was a total let down for me but now I need book 2 even though I know, it might end the same way. However, good news is that it’s only a trilogy so it will end.

One thing you can count on with Nora Roberts is that she repeats, repeats and repeats. Not only her same 6 characters in each of her trilogies, but the same, word for word dialogs, story to story. As she has gotten older she has dumbed down her stories so much that dialog is restated in every sentence as if the characters AND the readers were absolute morons. In her effort to seem "hip" she has truncated dialogs into meaningless sentences. She continues to name and label drop until she destroys plausibility.

Caleb's "ooey gooey" family interactions are beyond sucky. In this and in The Hollow, her second of this predictable trilogy, she copies and pastes dialogs word for word. The formula remains the same as always One chick, Quinn Black in this book, is a blustering, hoggish, crass, self absorbed dead bore. The wimpy, lamer chick is Layla. The savvy, brainy one is Cybil. Caleb is the sturdy, stable guy. Fox the brainy and moody jerk, and Gage the cynical, savvy, worldly traveler. She changes only their names, back stories and locale. If you read one of her trilogies you have read them all.

Even the increasingly vulgar sex scenes and dialogs are copy and paste. The "demon" in this story is implausible. I love metaphysical stuff, but this nonsense is just too inane to swallow and borders on bad Sci Fi. I have been a fan for many years. Not any more.
No one tells a story like Nora Roberts. I have been a fan for decades. She is such an imaginative writer and I am always enthralled and entertained.
I love Nora Robert books, especially the later ones done as trilogies. This series was great. It is full of fighting personal demons, real demons, finding love, personal growth... lots of battles and mysteries to solve - it feels like several great books in one.
This is one of Nora Robserfs best works and I must say that I am a avid fan and reader of hers. For me this is up their with Harry Potter as a movie trilogy I hope it is at least in the works
This is not "spiritual warfare" -- this is just plain old horror stuff. Very very disappointed.
I was not thrilled with the plot line. I am not into paranormal or "otherworldly" stuff, and so the plot left the total Trilogy as unbelievable. The story begins with three boys celebrating their tenth birthday by an overnighter in the woods. The boys come from different backgrounds, but are best friends and proceed with the blood brothers rites--knicking themselves and mixing their blood. They also recite a passage they have created, but while proceeding with this rite, one of the boys blood drips to the ground and unbeknownst to them, begins to sizzle. This sets off a whole chain of events that runs throughout this book and into all three books.

The plot is unbelievable, BUT the characters are believable and absolutely phenomenal--some of the very best Nora Roberts has ever created. I judge quality of a book by how long I remember it. While I didn't like the plot, I did love the characters and the love story, and I do remember this book vividly. That, in my opinion, qualifies this story as a five star.
The characters are well developed. I like how I was able to get to know the secondary people in the town. It gave insight into why the young men became the adults they are.
