The Quillan Games Pendragon DJ MacHale Books
I read the first 5 books years ago and decided to pick the series up again. I'm a huge fan of the light humor, good adventure type atmosphere it brings. I definitely recommend this book for kids on up. The storyline is an original concept about a traveler who is destined to challenge the evil Saint Dane in multiple worlds. So each book provides a different world for each adventure which brings new travelers, cultures, and a whole new set of problems. I thought it would get redundant but I plan to finish the entire series!Tags : Amazon.com: The Quillan Games (Pendragon) (9781416914235): D.J. MacHale: Books,D.J. The Quillan Games Pendragon DJ MacHale Books Reviews
son reading-- his assessent
Bought for our 12 year old Granddaughter. She can't get them in the library at school, the kids are all reading them. The love these books and say the author rocks!
No sex scenes, no foul language, and some sort of moral compass. And this series is clever, well written and compelling. I love this series much more than the ministerial vampire series. Hunger Games, and the Divergent series, both of which I love, have some creative competition.
If you have read the previous Pendragon books, you won't be disappointed here. I savored the last few pages, not wanting it to be over. The Quillan Games adds a whole new dimension to the Pendragon series. Familiar items from other territories in Halla pop up and gives the reader time to reminisce about the transformation of Bobby Pendragon of Second Earth up until this point.
New information and wrinkles are revealed throughout this book. DJ MacHale is an expert at adding just enough new information about Halla, Saint Dane, the territories, their creatures, inhabitants and technology to keep this series lively and parallel if not superior to Harry Potter in its creativity.
This is a very satisfying book that has all the elements of a good series. The only bad part of this book is that it has to end as we wait for the next installment of the Pendragon Series.
What a fun and interesting ride!
All I can say is...if you value your sleep, or are super busy and the slightest bit of distraction will throw off your schedule, this book...who am I kidding this entire book series is not for you! Honestly I have told myself over and over that if a dull moment ever comes I'll stop reading and do something else...the problem is there doesn't ever really seem to be one! This book is action packed and thrilling in every way imaginable! Even while completely knowing and understanding that you don't know everything, somehow D.J. MacHale somehow figures out how to lull you into a sense of somewhat security and the turn your entire world upside down! I can normally interpret how things are going to turn out long before they ever happen but these books have definitely kept me guessing! In other words I'm dying to know what is going to happen next! Well I'm going to start the next book and as Spader says Hobey Ho!
I'm reading this series because my son read them and enjoyed them so much, and wanted to be able to talk about it with someone. Though this series is written for young teens, anyone who enjoys a good adventure will appreciate it. Cynical adults like myself will often see where the next turn might lead, but that doesn't take away from the truly amazing adventure at hand. MacHale has created a world (or worlds, or Halla, or territory, or...) that has its own rules, making it easy to achieve the required "suspension of disbelief" needed to lose oneself in this saga. One book in the series is not enough - you must read them all. this review will act as my commentary on the entire series. A+!
I discovered the Pendragon book series when I was at Middle School, and just looking at the cover of book 1 The Merchant of Death, I became very interested in them. I read the first book when I was fourteen-years old, and I instantly fell in love with them. The whole storyline about a teenage kid writing and sending journals to his best friends describing his incredible and frightening adventure through space and time is very interesting, and the characters are well defined and have great dialouge and characteristics. So far each book has fascinated me, and I've never once been disappointed by any one of them.
Now the latest installment of the series,Book 7 The Quillan Games, is an exciting and action-filled adventure that takes fans to a whole different place and meets new, unique characters.
In this book, Bobby Pendragon, the young hero of the series, travels to the territory of Quillan, a dark world with no emotion and is controlled by a company called BLOK. Bobby soon learns what the turning-point of this world may be, since he finds out that everyone on Quillan gambles on a series of sports and games called The Quillan Games. However the people of Quillan don't bet on the games with money....but with their own lives, and if they lose, they'll pay. Determined to stop the territory from colliding, Bobby ends up becoming one of the champions, under the control of two spectators named Veego and LaBarge, and competes in a series of deadly games and tasks, risking his life for the sake of all of Quillan and, even greater, all of Halla.
I was given a copy of this book by my father and brother, who were able to get one of the very first copies ever, because it wasn't supposed to come out yet, and get it singed by D.J. MacHale, the author himself, at the LA Times Festival of Books. How awesome is that? I know that the Pendragon books are meant for ages 12-14, and I'm 16 right now, but I still love to read them. Besides, there's some really intense situations in this book that maybe most kids would be freaked out by, and there's some scaary stuff in this book, like quig spiders and sharp-toothed clowns(I don't like clowns very much to this day). There's also some great twists and turns in it,something to expect in future Pendragon books. I give this book 5 stars, being one of my favorite books and favortie book series.
